DAY PROGRAM OPENS IN KEREMEOS
A new Day Program for adults with developmental disabilities opened May 14th in Keremeos. The program is funded by Community Living British Columbia, and provides lifeskills, recreation, and job coaching to these individuals.
The 'drop-in' centre is located in the back of the Keremeos Municipal Hall (most locals will remember it as the former veterinarian clinic) and is open Monday to Friday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
There were individuals, family members, Mayor Walter Despot and members of his council present for the casual opening ceremony last week which included a cake cutting and snacks including hot dogs. All in attendance agreed that this much needed service is going to be a huge benefit to Keremeos and area.
"To be able to offer a program like this is fantastic," Mayor Despot told the News Leader.
"It'll be open five days a week and will teach basic lifeskills, such as money management, and provide assistance for some participants who are at the stage where they are looking for employment opportunities."
The day program staff say they are looking forward to building upon what can only be described as a great start. Anyone interested in learning more about the program can call (250) 499-2388.
